Mata Matagi refers to the different winds that pass through Tokelau, a small Pacific Island, which vary in velocity and names and are considered integraI to shaping the Tokelauan environmental identity and thus a healthy body, mind and spirit. Much like these winds, Mata Matagi is a gathering, facilitated by Sydney based collective Black Birds, that recognises the importance of pan-Pacific sharing of cultural knowledge as a way to shape stronger, unified Indigenous bodies, minds and spirits. It is a call out to Pasifika, South Sea Islander, Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander communities to connect, respect and preserve cultural knowledge through song and dance. Community members of all ages, genders and skill are invited to participate. This gathering invitation is for Pasifika, South Sea Islander, Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander peoples only.
